Richard’s enthusiasm for sports car design and construction led him to a lock-up in Lulworth Road, London SE15 at the beginning of the 1960’s, where he worked with two other amateur enthusiasts. They built the 750 special, which sold in 1961. From there he turned professional, working for Don Sim at Diva Cars in Camberwell.
Moving to Suffolk in 1965, Richard established Centaur Engineering and produced cars to race in the 1172 formula, Formula 3 and Clubman formula before designing and constructing 750 formula race cars. Centaur cars are still competing - and winning! - on the 750 circuit to this day.
